What's New in MapleSim 4.5

Modelica 3.1 Support

In MapleSim 4.5, the Modelica® Standard Library 2.2.1 has been replaced by the Modelica Standard Library 3.1. To take advantage of the enhancements made to the Modelica Standard Library 3.1, significant updates were made to many of the MapleSim components. As part of the Modelica 3.1 support, MapleSim 4.5 provides a reliable update facility to convert files automatically that were created using earlier versions of MapleSim. When you open a model that uses the Modelica Standard Library 2.2.1 for the first time in MapleSim 4.5, the components are replaced with equivalent components from the Modelica Standard Library 3.1.

For more information, see Updating Models Created in MapleSim 4 or Earlier.

Modelica Import

You can use the Modelica import feature to import Modelica models and libraries, created using third-party Modelica tools, for use in MapleSim. This feature allows you to use MapleSim to simulate and analyze your Modelica models.

For more information, see Importing Modelica Models and Libraries.

Excel Connectivity Template

A parameter set is a group of parameter values assigned to a model that you have saved to a file. You can use the Excel Connectivity template to export parameter sets generated in MapleSim to Microsoft® Excel®. The parameter sets can then be viewed, edited, and compared in Excel. Additionally, using the Excel Connectivity template, you can import data (new or modified parameter values) from Excel to MapleSim as parameter sets.

For more information, see Importing Parameter Sets From an Excel Spreadsheet and Exporting Parameter Sets to an Excel Spreadsheet.

Modelica Custom Component Template

Using the Modelica Custom Component template, you can create MapleSim custom components by copying and pasting your Modelica code into the template and generating the custom component with the click of a button.

Discrete State Space Custom Component Template

Using the Discrete State Space Custom Component template, you can create MapleSim custom components from a discrete state space description.

Discrete Transfer Functions Custom Component Template

Using the Discrete Transfer Functions Custom Component template, you can create MapleSim custom components from a discrete transfer function.

New Simulation Engine

A new simulation engine is introduced in MapleSim 4.5. The new simulation engine takes a different approach to system simplification, initialization, and simulation. As a result, the new engine speeds up the simulation time for certain models, and provides you with the ability to simulate a greater number of models and hybrid models.

Identification of Placeholder Parameter Values

In the MapleSim component library, some component parameters have default starting values which are simply placeholder values. In some cases, they are unrealistic values for system simulations. In MapleSim 4.5, these placeholder values are clearly identified for you in the Inspector tab by their distinctive font color. If you run a simulation without replacing the placeholder values, you will be alerted with a warning message.

3-D Models Are Now Assembled Automatically

To generate a 3-D animation, you must first assemble your model so that its initial configuration can be displayed in the 3-D workspace. This includes any updates you make to the component parameters in your model. In MapleSim 4.5, you no longer need to manually assemble your 3-D model by clicking the 3-D view update button. The task of assembling your model is, by default, performed automatically when you update parameter values and then press Enter or click outside the Inspector tab.

For more information, see Assembling a 3-D Model
