Exponential Functions

An exponential function is a function of the form fx=cax, where a>0 and c0 are constants. It is common to exclude the case a=1, as then the function reduces to just the constant function fx=c.

The Exponential Function

The exponential function is the function fx=ⅇx, where ⅇ =2.718281828... . This function is also often written as fx=expx, particularly when the argument, x, is a large or complicated expression.

The graph below shows the function y=cax. Use the sliders to change the values of c and a.

Use the check boxes to select whether integers or general numbers will be used.  For comparison, you can also display the graph of y=ⅇx.
