The New Graphical User Interface
A number of new features have been added to Maple V's user interface. A brief description of the new features of Maple V's graphical user interface follows.
Expression Editor
Spreadsheets
Smart Plots
Drag and Drop
Expression Palettes
Export to HTML
Export to Maple Explorer
Opening a URL
Context-sensitive Menus
Enter expressions in a Maple worksheet using either Maple notation or Standard Math notation. To learn how to change the default input notation, see Entering Expressions.
Edit expressions using the Equation Editor, which you can access through the Context bar. Features of the Equation Editor include editing expressions, replacing all occurrences of an expression, and viewing and reverting to past edits.
See Manipulating Expressions for more information.
Spreadsheets organize the visual display of information by presenting it in tabular form, making it easier to comprehend. Copy or "Drag and Drop" expressions from your worksheet and place them within your spreadsheet. You can put formulae in cells that refer to data in other cells, and you can copy data or formulae into cells by using a fill.
See Arranging Data in Spreadsheets for more information.
Using either the context-sensitive menus or the Insert menu, you can create Smart Plots to graph functions. The advantages of using smart plots over the regular plots are that you can easily add expressions to a set of axes, you can change the attributes of a particular curve without affecting how other curves on the same set of axes are rendered, you can remove a curve from the plot while leaving other curves intact, and you can change the axes ranges.
See Creating Smart Plots for more information.
Using your mouse, you can drag an expression in your worksheet to a new location in your worksheet, to a spreadsheet, or to a plot.
See Manipulating Expressions Using the Mouse, Dragging and Dropping Expressions to and from Spreadsheets, and Dragging and Dropping Surfaces and Curves for more information.
Build mathematical expressions using one of the three new palettes. Use the Symbol Palette to add symbols and Greek letters to expressions; use the Expression Palette to build expressions containing constructions such as integrals, derivatives, sums, and products; and use the Matrix Palette to build matrices.
See Entering Expressions Using the Palettes for more information.
Generate a series of HTML pages from your worksheets. For more information about this feature, see Exporting Maple Worksheets to HTML.
Export a Maple worksheet to generate a LaTeX file that can be opened in a web browser. The web document can contain live expressions, smartplots, and spreadsheets.
Retrieve files from a web server. If the file is a Maple V worksheet, view it in your copy of Maple V. If the file is a web document, view it using a predetermined web browser. For more information about opening URLs, see Opening a URL.
Manipulate the expressions in the Maple V worksheet using the context-sensitive menus. Right-click (option-click on Macintosh) on the expression to obtain a list of commonly used commands for Maple objects or, more generally, any object that appears in a worksheet. For more information about this feature, see Using the Context-Sensitive Menu to Manipulate an Expression.
