 Choose $a$ and $b$ so that the line  minimizes , the sum of squares of the deviations from the points $\left(1,5.3\right),\left(3,8.8\right),\left(5,12.5\right),\left(6,15.4\right)$ to the line. Such a line is called the "least-squares" line.
