Using the Tab Key
The Tab key has a few different uses:
Indentation
Navigation through a document or between table cells
Navigation between placeholders within a math expression
Control the behavior of the Tab key using the Tab Navigation feature in the Format menu.
Select Format > Tab Navigation to activate the tab navigation feature.
To deactivate the feature, clear the check box beside Tab Navigation.

Navigating Placeholders within a Math Expression
The Tab key can be used to indent content in Text mode and in 1-D Math. To indent, ensure Tab Navigation is not selected.
The Tab key can be used to navigate through the cells of a table or the math regions of a document. Ensure Tab Navigation is selected.
Note: To indent content within a cell, turn off Tab Navigation.
In 2-D Math, the Tab key is always used to move between placeholders, and the menu item Tab Navigation is unavailable.
