An Escape (!) to the Host Operating System
Calling Sequence
! cmd arg1 arg2
Parameters
cmd
-
operating system command
arg1
arguments passed to operating system
Description
When the ! character appears as the first character in a line, it is treated as an escape to host operator.
This allows the execution of host system commands from within a Maple session. All characters on the line following the escape character are treated as a command to the host system.
The result is the return status of the command performed, which is operating system dependent, but usually 0 indicates success and any other value indicates failure.
Important: There may be implementation restrictions on some host operating systems.
Example
!pwd;
/home/myusername
